What to Expect During the Dental Implant Process

If you’re considering dental implants, knowing what to expect can make the whole experience feel a lot less intimidating. While every treatment plan is personalized, the journey usually follows four clear stages.

Step 1: Consultation and planning

It all starts with a relaxed conversation. We review your dental and medical history, examine your mouth, and take any necessary imaging to assess your jawbone and plan the ideal implant position. You’ll leave with a clear treatment plan — and a clear understanding of the cost.

Step 2: Implant placement

At your placement appointment, the titanium implant post is gently placed into the jawbone using local anesthesia (with sedation options where appropriate) so you stay comfortable. Many patients are surprised by how straightforward the visit is, and most return to their normal routine the next day.

Step 3: Healing and osseointegration

Over the next several weeks to a few months, the implant fuses with the surrounding bone in a natural process called osseointegration. This is what gives an implant its remarkable stability. During this time you may wear a temporary restoration, and we’ll check in to make sure healing is on track.

Step 4: Your final restoration

Once the implant has integrated, we attach a custom-made crown (or bridge, or full arch) designed to match the shape and shade of your natural teeth. The result is a restoration that looks natural and functions like a real tooth.

Aftercare

Caring for your implant is simple: brush, clean between your teeth, and keep up with routine visits. With good habits, your implant is built to serve you for years to come.
